Education and Islam

by Fred Mednick, Teachers Without Borders

Although coverage of atrocities committed by "radical Islamists" dominates the front pages of our newspapers, very few people know about Islam's core values and beliefs. Some accuse Islam of being an obstacle to development. Others have hijacked Islam by distorting the religion's holy book, the Qu'ran, to justify hatred and war. Neither view reflects Islam's true essence.

The core values of Islam are consistent with the values that many hold dear: the dignity of human beings, social welfare, and education. Islam's emphasis on education is particularly inspiring. The foundation of both the structural and curricular approaches we take for granted in academia is due, in large part, to Islamic institutions, which fostered curiosity and scientific inquiry; open and voluntary learning circles; the use of community resources in learning; peer review; problem solving approaches; story telling as illustration; and subsidies for those who were unable to attend school.

Teachers Without Borders (TWB) discovered such a wealth of material in Islamic sacred texts that outline "best practices" in teaching. With the support of the government of Pakistan, TWB has produced an online book: Modern Teaching AS Islamic Tradition, which integrates such concepts—in practical terms—into a professional development program for teachers. The online version is also used as source material for local workshops. The program provides incentives for teachers and community leaders to embrace education and social development while allowing them to remain true to their faith.

In Pakistan, where only about 3 percent of 18- to 24-year olds have access to higher education, online learning is important to ensure broader access to education. Hence, Modern Teaching AS Islamic Tradition will be disseminated online through Teachers Without Borders' new e-learning platform, which has been designed around the need for culturally sensitive, easily accessible, locally adaptable content. As a result, such a sensitive initiative can allow for creative uses of the material, such as radio programs, village puppet shows, and street theatre.

While developing this program, Teachers Without Borders has faced challenging questions: How can information and communications technology avoid a one-size-fits-all approach? How can Modern Teaching AS Islamic Tradition reflect the diversity of Islam without treating it in a superficial or overly generalized way? Ultimately, communities of professionals will need to interact with the content itself—adding to it, amending it, and localizing it to meet current needs.

Teachers Without Borders welcomes partners throughout the world who would be willing to critique the manual, to develop the curriculum, and to conduct customized teacher training programs. In addition, we are offering an online platform to selected non-profits who can help develop similar programs in other parts of the world.

CONTRIBUTIONS OF ISLAM

There is a great deal of misunderstanding about Islam in western nations.  Islam is not an isolated religious phenomenon, but is closely and historically related to Christianity.  Islam succeeded Christianity, and it was therefore a logical progression for Christians to accept it as steadfastly as they had  the religion of Christ.  Due to the historical order of its appearance, and because of the obviously more advanced character of its teachings, Islam constitutes a fuller revelation of God's plan for mankind.  The so-called Christian civilization, of which the Renaissance is one of the most striking manifestations, is essentially Muslim in its origins.  When medieval Europe was plunged into the darkest barbarism, the Arabs were busily engaged in establishing a civilization the like of which Europe had never before seen. It was eventually, through the Arabs, that civilization was introduced to the West.  It was through them that the philosophy, science and culture of the Greeks found their way into Europe.  Thanks to the Arabs the writings of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle were made available to Westerners.  There are infinitely more laws and institutions in the Qur'an (Koran) than in the Gospels.  While the latter's emphasis in mainly on individual conduct, the Qur'an stresses the importance of society.  When carefully and impartially compared, the Qur'an marks a definite advancement over the Gospels, from the standpoint of spiritual and humanitarian progress.  Western historians have for centuries distorted the facts to suit their own religious and ancestral prejudices.

Islam a religion of peace

A few months ago i got religious and found the truth about Islam. I went threw lots of websites studding my religion. I found it has scientific proof in my opinion. For example it talks about the bermuda triangle(the bermuda triangle wasn't even found until WWI). It also talks about cloud formation, evolution, What goes on during birth ext.. check here for a more detailed information about Islam and science: http://Islam-guide.com

All of these is now proven to be scientifically correct.

And also everything in the quran makes sense unlike other religions.

And it does not promote terrorism and here is a clip from an convert who talks about this. check this  http://youtube.com/watch?v=VqmMpkw378

Even Muslims these days don't follow there religion as they should. The common Muslim nows this, salah(which is praying), don't do bad things. That is what the common Muslim nows these days. There is munch more to it then that. Some Muslims support Islamic terrorist because they are unknowledge about there own religion so if a person says something that we should fight unbelievers in the name of Islam, They believe it because they don't now, but they assume they now.

And Not all of these so callled terrorist are fighting in the name of Islam they fight to protect there family and their city.

It’s Not Bigotry To Disapprove of Islam

Disapproval of Islam Is No Indication of Bigotry

From page 2 of the article:

There is no real parallel to this fear in Christian or Jewish homes. Christian parents may feel embarrassed by their religiously reborn children suddenly studying the Gospels obsessively, or witnessing obnoxiously to family or friends, but they needn’t worry about wayward kids blowing up themselves or others in the name of Jesus. Jewish mothers and fathers may hate the scraggly beards and black hats adopted by a suddenly Orthodox generation, or resent the refusal to eat non-kosher food at home, but even the most fanatical of their kids feel scant temptation to travel to remote mountain hideouts as part of an international terror conspiracy.

By contrast, the secularized, prosperous parents of the Christmas Day Underwear Bomber (Umar Farouk Abdulmuttalab), or the would-be Times Square Bomber (Feisel Shahzad), or the Fort Hood Shooter (Nidal Hassan), or European-educated engineering graduate Muhammad Atta (and his eighteen 9/11 accomplices) can testify what happens when even products of sophisticated, privileged families become too deeply entangled in Muslim fundamentalism.

The spiritual leader of the proposed Islamic Cultural Center near Ground Zero insists that the true problem is extremism, not Islam itself. “The real battlefront today is not between Muslims and non-Muslims,” declared Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf to the Council on Foreign Relations, “but between moderates of all faith traditions against the extremists of all faith traditions.”

This ignores the huge differences –both quantitative (Islamic radicals are vastly more numerous) and qualitative (Muslim fanatics endorse uniquely murderous rhetoric and deeds) – between extremists in one faith tradition and all others.

A Christian fundamentalist may talk about burning Korans; Muslim crazies regularly burn buildings- and people.

Even after Pastor Terry Jones called off his idiotic barbeque of the Islamic holy book, Muslims reacted with deadly riots in Kashmir that killed 16 and wounded sixty, while burning several schools and other government buildings.

Some Americans may dislike the style of worship in Pentecostal or Catholic churches, but the faithful (no matter how tackily dressed) never surge out of their sanctuaries on Sundays with fury and blood-lust, looking for non-believers to stone and property to destroy.

Every Friday, however, somewhere in the vast Muslim world, some congregations of the devout react to their uplifting prayer services by going directly from their mosques to rousing orgies of rage and violence.

This observation isn’t an expression of bigotry; it’s a factual product of reading the newspaper, and regularly monitoring international news.

The lame-brained insistence that all faith traditions deserve equal respect (or equal condemnation) doesn’t demonstrate tolerance or broad-mindedness; it expresses, rather, a refusal to take any religion seriously enough for honest evaluation of its virtues and flaws.

Reservations about Islam, and even fears of the Muslim faith’s influence on the world at large, don’t constitute paranoia or intolerance. These concerns represent an honest and reasonable response on the part of a significant segment of the public to a serious global challenge to the values that Americans hold most dear.

Click above to read page one as well.

**************

Page one of the article above points out that the number of persons unfavorably inclined towards the Muslim faith hasn’t changed in the last 4 years.  And yet the media tries to imply that more and more people are against the Muslim faith.

Page one also questions those Americans who say that they feel positively impressed by Islam and its influence.

It asks, “What aspect of Muslim teaching and achievement most inspires such respondents? The daily reports of suicidal violence from every corner of the globe, with fellow-Muslims (invariably) as the primary victims? Or the well-known association of Islamic piety with open-hearted respect for the rights of women, homosexuals and infidels? Or is it the sterling record of economic progress, cutting age technology and social justice achieved by precisely those societies (like Saudi Arabia, Iran or Afghanistan) that take Shariah law most seriously? Or would Islam’s American admirers cite the record of Muslim charities in the U.S., the most prominent of which (remember the Holy Land Foundation?) have been shut down by the government for their lavish support of murderous terrorist groups like Hamas?”

I would ask the same questions.  What, exactly, does impress these pro-Islam Americans?

Women's Rights in Islam

The subject of Muslim Women's Rights has been a hot topic in certain circles for sometime now; some of the most strident voices emitting from quarters whose knowledge of Islam borders the ridiculous. Their allegations are mainly based on assumptions and pre-conceived ideas about Islam. There's also no dearth of opportunistic scribes, posing as "experts", whenever the chance to make a quick buck or an impromptu appearance on a favorite TV show avails itself.

Unfortunately, the way people treat one another these days in so called "Muslim lands" also bloats the cloud of confusion. More often then not, people confuse the teachings of Islam with what those who call themselves "Muslims" do, forgetting the glaring fact that Islam isn't the personal property of anyone. Nor is it a 'label'. Islam is a dynamic way of life that nurtures and supports the sincere follower who lives his life according to the Divine injunctions.

To know the real position of women in Islam, one first needs to educate oneself on what Islam's all about.

Islam is not a new religion, its principles are the same principles that had governed the lives of the prophets and believing peoples throughout the ages. Simply put, the way of Islam is the Creator's guidebook for His beloved creation, man. And who knows this limited creature better than the one who made him? And who can best guide him and counsel him if not the Maker?

Allah doth wish to lighten your (difficulties), for man is created weak (in flesh). (Quran:4:28)

Islam is therefore a divinely ordained path for humanity, a way of life that empowers the individual and the society to live in accordance with the laws of the Divine — the benefit of which is reaped by society as a whole.

We have to understand that Allah is the Creator of all and all are equal before Him: men, women, black, white, brown, tall, fat, thin, rich, poor, none are excluded from the mercy of Allah. The Creator looks only at the heart of man and the human being is judged according to his good intentions and actions, not according to his gender or lineage.

The Messenger of Allah said,

"Whosoever is slowed down by his actions (on that Day),

will not be hastened forward by his lineage."

Man is created for a purpose and each and everyone of us has a role to play; and women are not exempt from this rule, nor are they burdened with more than they can bear.

While women are equal to men before Allah, they are different from men, and I have yet to meet a normal woman who wishes to become a man.

Now, what rights do women have in Islam?

Common sense tells us that the best place to seek an answer to this question is to go right to the heart of the matter, the source of Islam — instead of relying on other people's opinions and judgments as these would only lead us further away from the truth.

At the outset, we have to realize that Islam abhors all kinds of oppressions and mistreatment of the weak by the strong.

Allah says, as related by the prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, 'O My servants, I have forbidden oppression for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another.'

Hence, those who tend to oppress women do it only out of their own selfish greed and not because they are being ordered to do so by Allah. On the contrary, believers are warned against such propensity: "O ye who believe! Ye are forbidden to inherit women against their will. Nor should ye treat them with harshness." (Quran:4:19)

A believer is not only forbidden to mistreat his wife, he's warned against harboring any dislike for this good creation of Allah: "If you take a dislike to them it may be that ye dislike a thing, and Allah brings about through it a great deal of good." (Q:4:19)

Even in the case of divorce, the husband must exercise utmost caution in the way he deals with the situation: "When ye divorce women, and they fulfill the term of their (iddah). Either take them back on equitable terms or set them free on equitable terms; but do not take them back to injure them, (or) to take undue advantage." (Q:2:231)

It's even forbidden for men to take back their gifts, 'It's not lawful for you, (men), to take back any of your gifts (from your wives) except when both parties fear that they would be unable to keep the limits ordained by Allah. (Q:2:229) Also read (Q:2:236 &237)

Islam not only gives women rights in their day to day affairs, it places women in an enviable position, a status that demands respect and veneration:

'O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person (Adam), and from him (Adam) He created his wife (Eve)], and from them both He created many men and women and fear Allah through Whom you demand your mutual (rights), and (reverence) the wombs (that bore you). Surely, Allah is Ever Watcher over you.' (Q:4:1)

The Messenger of Allah said, "The most perfect of the believers is the best of you in character, and the best of you are those among you who are best to their wives."

Slandering women is forbidden, and punishable by law: "And those who launch a charge against chaste women, and produce not four witnesses (to support their allegations)  Flog them with eighty stripes; and reject their evidence ever after: for such men are wicked transgressors-" (Q:24:4)

Such as willfully hurt believing women: "Are cursed in this life and in the Hereafter: For them is a grievous Penalty."(Q:24:23)

In this world, such people as hurt the feelings and honor of believing women may put on an air of being 'the good guys' themselves. However, in the Hereafter and that's where true justice shall be served,  'Their tongues, their hands, and their feet will bear witness against them as to the actions.'(Q:24:24)

In the Qur'an couples are described as "partners"

And as "garments of each other"

Believing men and women are:

"are protectors of one another"

"enjoining what is just, and forbidding the evil."

And are equally "honored".

So there is no question of women not getting their "equal share" by the Grace of Allah, and theirs will be: "Gardens under which rivers flow, to dwell therein, and beautiful mansions in Gardens of everlasting bliss."

Among the Allah-given-rights to women, besides the

obligatory kind treatment,

true equality,

the enviable position of motherhood,

there's the exclusive right to ownership of property, etc.

Even after marriage, her property and whatever she earns are "hers" alone, and no man, whether he is a brother or a husband, can put a claim to it.

Women are pampered in Islam:

From the day she's conceived in the womb, she becomes the father's sole responsibility to feed, cloth and educate; as a wife, that duty is transferred to the husband, if widowed to the next of kin, and so on, and these Divine obligations which Allah placed on the shoulders of men are evaded at the evader's own peril, for there will come a day when the evader of duty will have to answer to Allah.

Although a woman has all these social and economical rights from birth, that is not the end of it. At the time of inheritance, she too becomes an eligible candidate, as daughter, as mother, as widow or as sister:

"From what is left by parents and those nearest related, there is a share for men and a share for women." (Q:4:7) Also read (Q:4:32) &(Q:4:176)

At the time of marriage the husband-to-be will have to part with something of his hard-earned earnings in the form of  'dowry'. There are two advantages for the woman in this. While on the one hand, the giving of dowry proves the man's sincerity, on the other hand, the 'dowry' becomes some sort of an economical security for the wife-to-be.

However, if a man is unable to carry out his duties, due to his economical constraints, then he is warned against bothering believing women with empty promises he is unable to keep. And let those who find not the financial means for marriage keep themselves chaste, until Allah enriches them of His Bounty. (Q:24:33)

To keep the limits of Allah, and in order not to become an unwanted burden on women, the prophet of Islam recommended fasting as a way of controlling man's base desires.

For the maintenance of widows: "And those of you who die and leave behind wives should bequeath for their wives a year's maintenance and residence without turning them out?" (Q:2:240)

"And for divorced women, maintenance (should be provided) on reasonable (scale). This is a duty on Al Muttaquin. (the pious) (Q:2:241)

And for the maintenance of divorced nursing mothers and offspring: "The mothers shall give suck to their children for two whole years, (that is) for those (parents) who desire to complete the term of suckling, but the father of the child shall bear the cost of the mother's food and clothing on a reasonable basis.

"No person shall have

a burden laid on him greater than he can bear.

No mother shall be treated unfairly on account of her child?"

(Q:2:233).

Kindness to parents is a "duty" on Muslims and Muslims are enjoined by Allah to treat their mothers with utmost care, 'And We have enjoined on man to be dutiful and kind to his parents. His mother bears him with hardship and she brings him forth with hardship.'(46:15)

Indeed as the prophet Muhammad had said,

"Paradise lies at the feet of your mother."

Even young girls are not forgotten, on the Day of Judgment their case is brought to the forefront, amidst the great upheavals of that Day:

'When the sun is folded up;

And when the stars darken;

And when the mountains shall be set in motion;

And when the pregnant camels shall be neglected;

And when the wild beasts shall be herded together;

And when the seas boil over;

And when the souls are reunited (like with like);

And when the girl-child buried alive is asked;

For what sin she was slain.' (Q:81:1-8)

With just a few short verses the message of Islam had uprooted with one stroke the evil practice of burying young girls in Arabia. That was 1427 years ago at a time when women were not even considered human in other parts of the world.

Needless to say,  women's rights in Islam are enshrined in the Divine message sent to the last Messenger of Allah. It's to be noted that these human rights are neither the fruits of struggle on the part of women nor are they the result of men's generosity.

These privileges are part and parcel of the message of Islam to humanity; a munificent declaration of peace and prosperity on earth where charity, love and fair dealing among humanity is the norm.

History has it that Muhammad's message of equality and justice for all did not go down well with the powers-that-be of that time. The privileged few felt threatened and fought hard against what they perceived as a threat to their life style. The more than 300 gods of Mecca being the center of attraction for idolatrous Arabia the custodians of the Kaba basked in self admiration. Keeping the status que meant high prestige for the chieftans of Mecca. For One God posed a direct threat to the "tourism industry" that thrived on the presence of these gods.

Historically, the message of Islam came at a time of great need. That was some 600 years after the person of Isa (Jesus) disappeared from the face of the earth, and in many quarters that had earlier received previous revelations only a shadowy version of the original remained where the priesthood manipulated the ignorant masses. Cruelty flourished and ignorance prevailed the earth. From East to West the unsavory condition of women the world over is known to historians. Divine intervention was not only awaited by those who knew the earlier scriptures it was also a necessity.

Arabia was no exception. Pre-Islamic era was a time of jahiliya (ignorance); gods many abounded in the holy precinct of the Kaba whose foundations were once raised by none other than Ibrahim and Ismael (Abraham and Ishmael).

It's no secret that this period of jahiliya where the true worship of the One True God was almost non existent, evil filled the vacuum. Materialism, drunkard ness, decadence, slavery,  tribalism and sectarian violence was the order of the day.

No true prophet of God was ever self appointed. And Muhammad was no different. History has it that this soft spoken man who by nature shunned pomp and show, was propelled into the midst of this ungodly scenario by none other than the Almighty Lord of Mecca.

Muhammad's first encounter with the Arch Angel Jibril (Gebriel) attest to this:

"Read!" The Angel commanded.

"I can not read!" Muhammad replied,

"Read!" the Angel repeated.

"I can not read!" Muhammad repeated.

"Read!" the Angel repeated for the third time to which the unlettered Muhammad replied in the same fashion.

But the author of the Quran would've none of it and Muhammad was soon forced out of his seclusion by nothing less than Divine miracle. And Muhammad read after the Arch Angel, word for word:

"Read! In the Name of thy Lord, Who has created (all that exists),

Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood).

Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous,

Who has taught by the pen,

Has taught man that which he knew not." (96:1-5)

These first five verses of the Qur'an (meaning the reading) were the beginning of a long period of Divine communication, of benevolent admonition and of good news stretching some twenty three years.

The Qur'an is described as ummul kitab (mother of the Book) a culmination of Allah's Word to humanity and Muhammad was simply the last of a long history of prophet hood that began with the first man.

In this latest Divine communication, God once again speaks to humanity:

- I am your Creator Lord, I am One, has always been the One and Only,

the Eternal, Absolute, Supreme Lord of Heaven and Earth.

- I am not the father of anyone of you, nor Am I begotten.

- I am He that has given you life and I am just as capable of taking it away from you.

- Just as I created you from nothing I will bring you back to life.

- The signs are all around you, take a moment and ponder.

- Look at the stars, look at the moon, see how I have raised the heavens.

- Look at your own creation, ponder, ponder, ponder…

- Look at the your food.

- These objects of worship that you've fashioned in your own hands are nothing but

Satan's handiwork. They have no power over you. They can neither benefit you nor

   cause you any harm.

- But I have your lives in My own Hands, will you not think?

- Satan is your enemy.

- Pride was the downfall of Satan, beware.

- Covet not what I have given to the others; your sustenance is with Me alone.

- Oppress not yourselves.

- Kill not one another

- Life on earth is but a fleeting moment; work for the next.

- Killing of children is a grave sin

- Women are your mothers, sisters, daughters and wives.

- It's Allah that has caused diversity, don't hate one another on account of that.

- Trust in Me. I am the only Lord over you.

Humanity was created equal from a single father and mother, said the author of the Quran,

"O mankind! We have created you all male and female and have made you nations and tribes so that you may recognize each other (not hate one another). The most honored among you in the sight of God is the most pious of you. God is All-knowing and All-aware" (49:13).

It's to be noted that social justice did not come as an after thought, for Islam came to free the spirit, not only from the shackles of man-made worship, but also from all forms of superstitions and oppression. Small wonder than that the first converts were: a man, a woman, a former slave and a child.

The first one to hear the call was a woman; the prophet's beloved wife, Khadija.

After that first daunting encounter with the Angel, the Messenger of Islam did not rush to hobnob with the lords of Mecca. He headed straight for his wife. At the news, Khadija's trust in her husband's integrity did not waver even for a second. And Khadija's personal and material sacrifice from there on did not go unnoticed. This great woman was once with her husband when Allah's greetings reached her through the Angel Jibril, "?Give her greetings of peace from her Lord and from me, and give her the good news of a palace of jewels in the Garden?"

In the Quran, a whole sura (chapter) is named after women (Surat an Nisaa).

Pharoah's wife, Aasiya,  we are told, was a good woman, Allah had answered her prayers and she was saved from the iniquity of her husband, the Pharoah. And she happened to be a woman.

Isa's (Jesus) mother, Mariam (Mary) a virtuous woman is described as the best woman of her time. A whole chapter of the Quran is named after this honorable woman (Sura Mariam).

Quran relates the story of Mariam's mother and how she had personally implored the Lord and how the Lord granted her request in a manner that brings one's eyes to tears. Subsequently, Allah protected Mariam and her child from the influence of Satan the accursed. (Quran:3:35-37)

Prophet Muhammad said, "Satan toucheeth every son of Adam the day his mother beareth him, save only Mary and her son."

Nor is the Lord of Heaven and Earth above listening to the pleas of a simple housewife who complains to the prophet about her husband.

"Allah has indeed heard (and accepted) the statement of the woman who pleads with thee concerning her husband and carries her complaint (in prayer) to Allah. And Allah always hears the argument between both sides among you: for Allah hears and sees all things." (Quran:58:1)

At the time of giving allegiance to the prophet, women were not left behind. They too committed themselves to the cause of Islam and the role they played is no secret to Muslims.

If education is important for boys, it is equally important for girls. Even after marriage, it becomes incumbent on Muslim husbands to teach their wives their religion. Husbands must not stand in their way if their wives choose to seek knowledge on their own.

Needless to say, the prophet's wives were themselves a necessary link through which the Muslims learned their religion; delicate issues were referred to them. Allah had Himself conferred on them the distinguishing title of  'Mothers of the believers', "The prophet is closer to the believers than their own selves and his wives are their mothers." (Quran:33:6)

The role the early women of Islam played in the field of education is well known to Muslims. Aisha, a mother of the believers, said, 'In the time of the Messenger of Allah, whenever any verse was revealed, we used to memorize the lawful and the unlawful contained in it even if we did not memorize its exact words.'

Aisha was a woman of sharp intellect.  She lived long after the prophet's death and taught many great scholars. She had a great memory and was an authority on solving inheritance problems among other things. People came from far and wide to learn from her. She alone narrated 2210 Ahadith (sayings of the Prophet). And is described as a professor of professors.

Dear readers never in history had the Almighty ever been unjust to women. The Almighty Lord hates oppression of any kind, for oppression "is worse than killing."

And while Muslims, men and women, are commanded to exercise great patience they are allowed to defend their rights. If there's injustice in the world today, it's due to man's own weaknesses and his departure from his spiritual self.

Men and women are equal in the eyes of Allah and each gets what he/she earns:

'Verily, for Muslim men and women, for believing men and women,  for men and women who are obedient to Allah for devout men and women , for truthful men and women, for men and women who are patient, for men and women who humble themselves before their Lord Allah, for men and the women who give in charity, for men and the women who fast, for men and women who guard their chastity and for men and women who engage in Allah's praises, for them has Allah prepared a forgiveness and great reward (Quran: 33:35)

The first recipients of the Divine injunctions are described in the Qur'an as (what means) 'the best of people evolved for mankind.' These were sincere people for whom Allah's word meant the last word in everything. To serve God's creation was to serve God; their reply to God's commands being, 'We hear and we obey.' And that is where their success lay. Because they were sincere to God, when they heard a commandment they obeyed it, no questions asked. And that's exactly what's lacking in many Muslims today.

Dear readers, the above is only a drop in the showers of mercy that descend from above on this beautiful creation of Allah the Most High.

For a more in-depth study of how Islam advocated women's rights right from the beginning of Prophet Muhammad's message please refer to the Qur'an and the Prophet's traditions.

Comments and suggestions most welcome. And do watch out for any human errors on my part.

The truth about Islam

The reason I am getting into this particular topic is because there is a HUGE misunderstanding of this religion. So I hope you had coffee today because you will want to be wide awake for this one. I have done tremendous research on this and it has taken me 2 weeks to write this article. I have found many supporting sources, and the this article says it all.

One main difference between Islam and Christianity is that Christian nations are predominantly democracies. In Islam the countries are predominantly DICTATORSHIPS….which is where we are heading.

Islamic women are seriously oppressed in the majority of Islam nations. Sexual minorities in Islam are either driven into hiding or EXECUTED. Islamic women can only marry or remain married to a Muslim man, no inter-faith marriages are permissible.

Apostasy- leaving ones religion due to religious conversion- in Islam the person is killed either murdered or executed.

Islams treat Jews with massive opposition and physical attacks since the creation of Israelin 1948 and the occupation of Palestine. As we have gotten more tolerant, they have gotten less tolerant. They have also shown a widespread rejection of Israelby practicing discrimination, suicide bombings, etc. The only exception to this is Turkey, which is in a more secular state.

Another huge difference is that Imam’s are just leaders in prayer, he has no religious authority. In Christianity all pastors go to school and not only learn but have religious authority.

Muhammad had multiple marriages and was a man of war, with Mecca being nearby, especially since they were hostile. Jesus was not like that at all. His kingdom is not of this world, Moses was responsible for the rules of the Lord, and Joshua was responsible for handling all military business. Muhammad to Muslims is seen as Morally perfect, because they feel it is necessary, which it is not. In Christianity, Moses was not seen as perfect and was prohibited entry into the Heaven as punishment.

Any images of their prophet Mohammed are strictly forbidden. So anytime there is an image posted anywhere-in any country or publication, the radicals incite violence. In Christianity, images of our savior are not forbidden; in fact it is strongly encouraged.

If you look through their history which is linked down below, you can tell it is filled with violence, it goes back much longer than the Christian crusades. There are many takeovers of Gov’t and countries. It continues. The main goal of Islam is dominance and to take over the world. Everything I have read about it points to it. It is a form of terrorism, you can believe it or not, but this is fact.

Here are some passages from the Quran:

2:190-193 “Fight in the cause of God those who fight you … And slay them wherever ye catch them … And fight them on until there is no more tumult or oppression and there prevail justice and faith in God …”

2:216 “Fighting is prescribed for you and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But God knoweth and ye know not.”

2:224 “Then fight in the cause of God and know that God heareth and knoweth all things.”

3:157-158 “And if ye are slain or die in the way of God, forgiveness and mercy from God are far better than all they could amass. And if ye die, or are slain, Lo! It is unto God that ye are brought together.”

3:169 “Think not of those who are slain in God’s way as dead. Nay, they live finding their sustenance in the presence of their Lord.”

3:195 “… Those who have … fought or been slain, verily I will blot out from them their iniquities and admit them into Gardens with rivers flowing beneath; a reward from the presence of God …”

4:101 “… For the Unbelievers are unto you open enemies.”

4:74, 75 “Let those fight in the cause of God who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter. To him who fighteth in the cause of God whether he is slain or gets victory, soon shall we give him a reward of great (value). Those who believe fight in the cause of God and those who reject faith fight in the cause of evil, so fight ye against the friends of Satan, feeble indeed is the cunning of Satan.”

4:89 “They but wish that ye should reject faith as they do, and thus be on the same footing as they. But take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of God. But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them…”

4:95 “Not equal are those believers who sit at (at home) and receive no hurt and those who strive and fight in the cause of God with their goods and their persons. God hath granted a grade higher to those who strive and fight with their goods and persons than those who sit (at home).

5:36 “The punishment of those who wage war against God and His apostle and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land. That is their disgrace in this world and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter.”

5:54 “O ye who believe. Take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors. They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily God guideth not a people unjust.”

8:12-17 “Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): “I am with you. Give firmness to the believers. I will instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers. Smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger tips off them. This because they contend against God and his apostle. If any contend against God and his apostle, God is strict in punishment … O ye who believe. When ye meet the unbelievers in hostile array, never turn your backs to them. If any do turn his back to them on such a day, unless it be a stratagem of war … he draws on himself the wrath of God and his abode is Hell, an evil refuge (indeed).”

8:59-60 “Let not the unbelievers think that they can get the better (of the godly). They will never frustrate (them). Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies of God and your enemies and others besides, whom ye may not know, but whom God doth know …”

8:65 “O apostle! Rouse the believers to the fight. If there are twenty amongst you, patient and persevering, they will vanquish two hundred. If a hundred they will vanquish a thousand of the unbelievers, for these are a people without understanding.”

9:5 “… fight and slay the pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war) …”

9:14 “Fight them, and God will punish them by your hands, cover them with shame …”

9:29 “Fight those who believe not in God nor the Last Day nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by God and his apostle nor acknowledge the Religion of Truth (even if they are) of the people of the Book, until they pay the Jizya [religious tax] with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.”

47:4 “Therefore, when ye meet the unbelievers, smite at their necks, at length when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly (on them) … but if it had been God’s will, he could certainly have exacted retribution from them (himself), but (he lets you fight) in order to test you, some with others. But those who are slain in the way of God, he will never let their deeds be lost.”

61:4 “Truly God loves those who fight in His cause in battle array, as if they were a solid cemented structure.”

You can obviously see for yourself how violent these passages are, and why most Muslims are violent. These passages incite violence and cause them to have feeling of hate towards Christians, Jews and all other religions. We are considered as non-believers. There are those who will cite only open minded and inclusive verses from the Qur’an. We cannot, however, ignore the impact and weight of these passages to a devout Muslim, who wants to find and obey the path to and will of “Allah”.

The first objection is that the verses support fighting due to what happened to Muhammad. The problem with this is that in the Qur’an at no point are the above passages restricted to a specific time period or against a single group.

The second objection revolves around Islam being a religion of peace with war and violence being for self-defense. People state they carry weapons for self-defense and fighting against oppression. What they don’t tell you is how broad these meanings truly are.

Most Orthodox Muslims believe that if a leader of a country does not acknowledge the rule of Islam that they are oppressors and thus a legitimate threat and target for war. Muslims argue that America is a cultural oppressor and thus any attacks against us are self-defense. There is no end how they come up with their so called justifications and thus will continue to incite violence.

I am going to conclude this post by referring to a program that was produced by Frontline, titled “The Saudi Time Bomb”. During the program, according to Frontline, 35% of school studies are devoted to Saudi religion. One of the textbooks used, was published in 200, is a collection of Muhammad’s sayings. This book is used by middle school students in Saudi Arabia. One of the lessons is called, “The Victory of Muslims over Jews.” In this lesson they learn that the last hour won’t come until the Muslims fight the Jews and the Muslims kill them so that the Jews are forced to hide behind rocks and trees. “Then the rocks and trees will call: Oh Muslim, oh servant of God! There is a Jew, behind me, come and kill him.” The textbook summarizes these teachings in several statements, such as:

It is fate that is decided by Allah that Jews and Muslims will fight until the end of time.

The Hadith predicts that the Muslims God will have victory over the Jews .

“Jews and Christians are the enemies of believers.  They will never approve of the Muslims, beware of them.”

I am not engaging in the adage of the Christian vs. Muslim disputes. I am merely pointing out the prevalence of violence that is laid within the foundations and history of Islam. I am merely exposing the teachings of Islam from its original sources. Underneath all of the social, cultural and political undertones for the rise in violence among Muslims there is a religious foundation of violence that is deeply embedded in its own teachings of Islam.  Violence is embedded in Islam’s worldview. We as a country need to take this challenge from Islam more seriously. They will try to take over our country, and if they do, they will kill us for the simple facts that we are Christian.

Every time there is any issue that the Islam religion faces here in America, the news makes it out to be a HUGE controversy. Yet, when things similar or worse happen to non-Muslims there is hardly a mention of it. This country is taking a dangerous turn, and we need to right it quickly. Knowledge is power. Here is the knowledge. What you do with it is on you!

Islam on the Rise in the US, Thanks to Obama

Activist: Islam on the rise, compliments of Obama

A conservative political activist says President Obama’s pro-Islamic leanings are to blame for radical Islamic groups becoming so emboldened that they are openly holding conferences on U.S. soil calling for the establishment of a global Islamic empire.

On July 11 the radical Islamic group Hizb ut-Tahrir America (HTA) was scheduled to hold its second annual “Global Campaign for Khilafah” in a Chicago suburb to call for an end to capitalism and to hype the virtues of an Islamic state ruled by strict sharia law. Last year’s gathering — themed “Fall of Capitalism & Rise of Islam” — drew about 500 people, but this year the group has reserved an 11,000-square-foot ballroom, hoping to draw more than a thousand participants. This year’s event was billed “Emerging World Order: How the Khilafah Will Shape the World.”

HTA is an extremist organization which wants to establish a global Khilafah. The group has been described by the president of American Islamic Forum for Democracy as “a conveyor belt to terror” and a former member as believing that “homosexuals should be thrown off the highest building.” Among its alumni are 9/11 mastermind Kalid Sheik Mohammed and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the one-time leader of al-Qaida in Iraq. (See related article)

Robert Knight is a senior fellow at the American Civil Rights Union and a senior writer for Coral Ridge Ministries. He contends that radical Islamic groups such as HTA have become emboldened because of President Obama’s snubbing of Israel and his outreach to Muslims.

“He’s sent many signals that Islam is on the rise in America and that he’s fine with it,” Knight points out. “And I think these groups are feeling emboldened that they can step out of the shadows and proclaim that they are working for establishment of sharia law, which is entirely unconstitutional by our standards. But they feel so emboldened that they can hold public conferences and proclaim the fall of capitalism and the rise of Islam.”

Knight says groups like HTA are confident knowing that the mainstream media likely will not take them on — and certainly neither will the Obama administration.

When will Americans wake up?

Note:  Some have wakened. Hizb ut-Tahrir’s event was originally slated to be held at a Marriot Hotel outside of Chicago on July 11, but the hotel cancelled the event due to public pressure. The group will now hold the conference in late July at an as-yet-undisclosed location.

Interesting, isn’t it, that they’re going to have to hide?

Hello – Is it Islam?

Vinod Sailes, a Gatherer has posted a wonderful article on Newsvine.  I think you’ll all love it.  (Newsvine however has deleted the article for some reason, so I’ve edited the link to direct you to where it currently is posted)

Hello – Is it Islam?

Here’s my favorite part:

There is no doubt the Islamic countries across the globe are taking cognizance of the change in equations as also the determination shown by most countries on the question of extremism.  Further, even the Heads of State of Islamic countries too need to tone down their rhetoric and fall in line with an undiluted concept of cooperation and coexistence. Al Qaida and their sympathizers too need to see reality in a proper perspective if they want Islam to proceed on the lines set down by its founders.

Critical inputs, crude facts and mathematical figures related to developments in the last couple of decades stare Islam in the face, the same Islam that from time to time posted arrogant claims of incomparability with other religions but failed miserably to outwit the weaponry and hate campaign that stay poised to wipe their cadres in to extinction.

Islam in Africa

During the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad (saw) a group of Muslims escaped Meccan persecution (615) by fleeing to Ethiopia, where the Negus gave them protection. The spread of Islam in Africa began in the 7th and 8th cent. with the Umayyads, who brought the religion to the Middle East and to the littoral of North Africa. Along the coast of Africa Islam spread among the Berbers, who joined the Muslim community and almost immediately drove north across the Mediterranean into Europe. In Morocco, Muslims founded the city of Fès (808), which soon thereafter gave refuge to Andalusian Muslims fleeing an uprising in Córdoba (see Idrisids). On the east coast of Africa, where Arab mariners had for many years journeyed to trade, Arabs founded permanent colonies on the offshore islands, especially on Zanzibar, in the 9th and 10th cent. From there Arab trade routes into the interior of Africa helped the slow acceptance of Islam and led to the development of Swahili culture and language.

Prior to the 19th cent. the greatest gains made by Islam were in the lands immediately south of the Sahara. The Islamization of W Africa began when the ancient kingdom of Ghana (c.990) extended itself into the Sahara and the Islamic center at Sanhajah. Mansa Musa (1307–32) of Mali was among the first to make Islam the state religion. By the 16th cent. the empire of Mali and its successor-state Songhaj included several Saharan centers of trade and Muslim learning, such as Timbuktu. In the region of the E Sudan, Islamic penetration followed the route of the Nile. By about 1366, Makurra, the more northerly of the two Christian kingdoms of the E Sudan, became Islamic. The other kingdom, Aloa, was captured (c.1504) by the Muslims.

In the 16th cent. the Somali conqueror Ahmad Gran unsuccessfully attempted to convert Ethiopia to Islam. In the late 18th and early 19th cent., Africa, like the rest of the Muslim world, was swept by a wave of religious reform. Militant reformers, such as the Fulani and the followers of Hajj Omar, greatly extended the area over which Islam held sway in W Africa. Usumanu dan Fodio (1809) founded the Sokoto caliphate, which was eventually incorporated under British rule into Nigeria.

The famous Arab historian Ibn Khaldun says that the name Ifriqiya was given after Ifriqos bin Qais bin Saifi, one of the Kings of Yemen. To Al-Bakri, the boundries of Ifriqiya were Barga on the East and Tangier on the West, which means that in addition to the Africa proper of the Romans, it included Tripolitania, Numidia and Mauritania. Today, by the use of the word Ifiriqiya or Africa, the Arabs as well as non-Arabs mean the entire continent of Africa which includes North Africa (including the Maghrib), East Africa, West Africa, Central Africa, and South Africa. It was significant that the first shelter of early Muslims was in Africa (Abyssinia, 615 CE). By the time Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) began his mission, the Egyptians and Syrians had partially severed their active
link with the Roman Empire.

The true factor of Islamization lies in the religion of Islam itself. Every Muslim has been asked to carry the message of the Prophet to others. The Prophetic Tradition says: “Preach even if it may be one verse.” Wherever the Muslims went, they took their religion and culture with them. The Arabic language formed almost a part of their religion, as the Qur’an was in Arabic. There were long-distance trade routes, running from North to South. The Arab traders and business men and some quiet missionaries, who had dedicated their lives to the cause of Islam, carried the message of Islam wherever they travelled. It is also true that wherever the Muslim conquests took place a large number of Muslims chose to settle down in newer places. The period between 660-670 C.E., was remarkable for the expansion of Islam further into Africa along the Mediterranean coast. Morocco came under Islamic influence in the 8th century and the Berbers began to join the Muslim armies. Islam spread in North Africa with remarkable speed, and by the year 732 C.E., which marked the first centennial of Muhammed’s death, his followers were the masters of an empire greater than that of Rome at its Zenith, an empire extending from the Bay of Biscay to the Indus and the confines of China and from the Aral Sea to the lower contracts of the Nile. The name of the Prophet, as Messenger of God along with the name of God [Allah] was being called out five times a day from thousands of minarets scattered all over North Africa, South-Western Europe, and Western and Central Asia.

Islam is the largest religion in Africa with about 45 % of the population being Muslims, in contrast to 40 % being Christians and less than 15 % being non-religious or adherents of African traditional religions. Islam is still increasing in Africa as many Africans Bantu speakers embrace Islam especially in the central and eastern part of Africa.
